Hello, and welcome to the forum. I've been where you are, and a Kawi EX250 is a great starter bike. Plenty of experienced riders will go back to a 250 just because they are fun to ride, and parts are plentiful on ebay if you find yourself in a situation where you need them. An EX500 and a Suzuki GS500 and SV650 are all good, (the 500s are better and more forgiving), and can be found for $2500 range and you could sell in a few years if you needed to and not take much of a loss on the purchase price. As others have said, buy used! Dropping a new bike in a parking lot is shame you will not be able to wash off, and the price to fix... just start used. We all want you to start smart and ride safe. And you said you want to buy one by the end of the year? I think we can convince you to buy one sooner!

You talking about the ones that are about 1/3 - 1/2 the size of the regular ones?

Not that I'm experienced enough to put in my two cents, but you and I are the same height, and I can only touch toes on the SV. I was looking for a good 250, and still kind of wish that was what I bought, even though most people I talked to said I needed 500+ for all the freeway time. I think I would have been fine on a 250, and I would be more confident, because when I can't reach with both feet, I get nervous and think too hard, and then I do something embarrassing like stall it in an intersection.

Hi Christina,

I'll just add to other's recommendations.
I got a CBR600RR for my first bike. Probably not the best choice, if I did it over I would have gotten a 250 or sv650. The new 250s are real flashy too.
Definitely take the MSF course, its a must.
Other than that, come visit to help us add input on any potential bike purchases or look for good deals.
Then come out and ride.

That's not so bad unless the bike doesn't want to restart, then it becomes embarrassing.
